HOLY MATRIMONY BANNS AND MARRIAGE APPLICATION PLEASE READ This form may be completed by one of the partners on behalf of both. Only the sections marked * need to be completed if the marriage is to take place in another parish. The notes at the end are important and should be read before each section is completed.
NOTES (Numbers refer to sections overleaf) At least seven days’ notice is required before the first reading of banns. (3) if either of you will not be 18 by the proposed date of the wedding, the priest will need to know whether the consent of parents has been obtained. (6) Make sure you include the name and address of the town, county, and postcode (14) This means the Church of England parish in which you live. If either of you live in a different parish from that in which the marriage is to take place, you have to arrange for the banns to be read there too and obtain a banns certificate.
General Information If you are a foreign national an application can be made for Common Licence, Superintendent Registrar’s Certificate or Archbishop’s Licence. There will be further forms to fill in, so speak to the priest conducting your service. Marriages may take place between the hours of 8.00am and 5.00pm. Please provide as much evidence as you can with this form. If you need help please see the ‘Guidance on the Church of England Marriage Measure’ www.cofe.anglian.org or contact us. If you have been divorced or are a widow or widower you will be required to show you Decree Absolute or your previous spouse’s Death Certificate. All documents will be returned. Please note when supplying documentary evidence if any of the names have changed from what has been recorded, please explain why and how the changes took place providing documentary evidence for the change.
Legalities and Fees Please note any information you supply on this form is protected under the Data Protection Act 1998 and only be shared with your priest, the current Church Wardens and the Benefice Treasurer and Administrator for administration and finance. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU TICK OR CROSS OUT ALL THE BOXES BELOW. Heating & lighting vary from church to church. The Benefice Treasurer will invoice you accordingly.
When all arrangements are in place you will be sent an invoice and all fees must be paid one month prior to you wedding.
NB: Performing rights If you wish to record any part of the service, it is your responsibility to obtain a licence and show the priest before the service. The price of the organist and choir will significantly increase. For sound recording only, £120 for the organist and £150 for the choir. For video, £160 for the organist and £200 for the choir. Flowers: You are free to organise whom you wish to provide and arrange your flowers, but we do ask that you contact the responsible person in the parish for local help and guidance. Name and contact details will be sent once your service is booked.
Completion of Document Finally , you are required by law to have two witnesses 140sign the registration documents, people often choose parents or other members of the bridal party. You may choose whom you wish as long as they are over the age of 16.
